wrist warmers

Toasty toes :-)

that's it socks finished and lovely warm toasty they are too :-)
I started each sock with the red wool so that the wool patterns match - it meant wasting some of the wool until i got to the red again but it'll save for some wrist warmers i think.

winter socks

A lovely warm sock for winter using this pattern and Noro wool :-) Loving making them and half way through the second one now - soon toasty toes :-)

Monday, 7 November 2011

knitting a pair of socks to use up a bit of wool , they don't match too well lol because the patterns are in different places - normally i start in the same bit of yarn so the lines match but i've only got a bit of wool. As usual i'm using this pattern.

Swing Cardigan

left front with sloping seam side.
I'm still making the swing cardigan from Twilleys out of Freedom sincere organic cotton, this pic is me half way up the left front. I must say i'm still finding making something adult size a major marathon!!I'm using wooden needles now and finding them a lot more comfortable, especially because the cable is very flexible and 100cm long so that it doesn't get in the way while I'm knitting.
I'm using my lovely stitch markers from Goddess Jewels

Premature Baby Bonnet

from dawny using Blackberry
This is a bonnet for a local premature baby unit, if you want to join in I used this pattern to make the little bonnet with the Sirdar Snuggly Baby Crofter wool I had left over from making my slippers. I have enough to make another 3 I think and the bonnets will go to the premature baby units being supported locally by this website run by the people at Wye Needlecraft of Bakewell. What a wortwhile thing to do with soft left over wool, and it was quite quick to knit up too.

another pair

Another pair :-) double knit this time for slippers :-)

First ever finished sock

Love it, and it fits just right. Only one and a half done so far but so excited to have finished one tonight. Easily pleased.
I used this pattern to finish the foot end of the sock because the Opal pattern hasn't reappeared since Christmas, it must have gone in the recycle with the wrapping paper.
What is it that makes knitting so therapeutic? I thought 2.5mm needles and sock yarn would grow really slowly but it doesn't and it is so rewarding to work with.
I think the fact that it enables me to just block out the world for a bit and gives me a bit of peace is a big part of it. I can see it becoming a bit of an addiction. Mum saw me doing it and said ooh aunty so and so always used to carry around her sock knitting ....
Early memories of my nanna are also full of knitting, it makes me feel closer to her in some way.
